At Urban Optiques, we’re always looking for the new and unusual to add to our eyewear collections.

We’re partial to small, exclusive independent boutique eyewear brands — especially those that show a high-level of commitment to producing not only exceptionally-designed eyeglasses and sunglasses, but also understand the value of quality over quantity.

So when we ran across RVS by V Eyewear, we were instantly enamored with not only the bold colors and distinctive retro-inspired shapes of the frames, but also the philosophy of RVS by V Eyewear and its owner Vidal Erkohen.

RVS Eyewear’s claim-to-fame is that they hand-make and assemble each frame from the ground up.  Based in Istanbul Turkey, Vidal Erkohen and RVS Eyewear produce their eyeglasses and sunglasses from the highest-quality Mazzuchelli acetate.  The acetate is left unpolished, producing a truly bold, unique matte finish that we simply haven’t seen on other frames of this quality in the marketplace.

When we contacted Vidal Erkohen to ask him about the possibility of stocking RVS Eyewear, he explained the company philosophy very succinctly:

“We believe it’s very important to produce eyewear for people who value quality over quantity. Each piece we manufacture is truly HANDMADE.  This does not mean they were “hand-placed in a case.”  Everything is truly made from hand:  From our hand painted-red screws, brand prints inside the temples made one-by-one, and hand-sewn satin cases;  all of our pieces are made with the goal to bring back the originality and quality that was put into eyewear of the past.”

RVS produces its eyewear like small batches of fine wine — their collection is relatively small compared to most eyewear lines, comprising 10 opthalmic frames and 11 sunglass models for a total of 21 frames.  Each model is typically available in five to six different colors.

Each RVS eyeglass and sunglass is limited to 1,500 pieces, making it extra-exclusive and ensuring that you’ll be only one of 1,000 people in the world to own any given RVS by V Eyewear piece.

Nothing Whispers Long Days at the Beach like the Chloé Tilia Sunglass. Today’s Look Shows You How to Rock These Born-for-the-Beach Sunglasses All Summer Long.

Sometimes you run across a pair of sunglasses with such a distinct personality that everyone who sees them uses the same adjective to describe them.

That’s exactly what happened when we first set our eyes on the Chloé “Tilia” sunglasses.

When our Chloé rep pulled out the Tilias, the first word out of all our mouths was: “Beach!”

From the oversized, 50s-inspired cat-eye shape to the muted, earth-tone pastels and adorable little metallic star in the corner of the lens, the Tilia just seemed to evoke images of toes-in-the-sand or lounging poolside with a mojito in your hand.

It turns out, though, that the Chloé Tilia is a remarkably versatile sunglass.  Combine it with a pair of vintage jeans and billowing peasant blouse and it takes on a decidedly Boho vibe.  Not bad for a single pair of shades. continue

We’re All Lit Up About the New Ray-Ban Wayfarer Sunglasses We’ve Added to the Urban Optiques Collection: Especially the Colors!

Forget about raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, one of our favorite things at Urban Optiques is when the UPS guy brings us a big, brown box filled with new eyewear.

So when we received the first half of our shipment of new Ray-Ban eyewear and sunglasses, it was nothing short of feeding frenzy around the office.

Frankly, we couldn’t get these new shades in the on the rack and in the window fast enough.

Why?

Because we just brought in some of the hottest Ray-Ban models on the planet and set-aside our love for the usual classics  like tortoise and black, this time we opted for some really fun, off-the-wall colors that we are convinced will nearly fly on to people’s faces when they walk in.

But don’t take our word for it. You decide.

Here’s what we just got in:

Ray-Ban Cats

The Ray-Ban “Cats” are the fashionista’s alternative to the Wayfarer. They feature a round plastic frame pink, as well as a shape that look fantastic on narrow or longer faces.

These are the exact pair of pink Ray-Ban “Cats” that have been spotted on Katie Price. They are available in several colors, including white, beige/tan, red and black. We picked the pink Cat, because the color is unique, and frankly, we just haven’t stocked many pink sunglasses recently. Depending on the reception, we may bring in the pink Wayfarer.
