EDGE Magazine — One of the Largest GLBT News and Entertainment Portals on the Web — Highlights Urban Optiques in its “Spring Shades” Style Feature

Yesterday morning we were thrilled to see that EDGE Magazine published a lengthy interview I did with them last EDGE Magazine Spring Shades & Sunglasses Featureweek around how to choose fashionable sunglasses and take care of your vision at the same time.

EDGE is the largest network of local Gay, Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) news and entertainment portals in the world, serving 500,000  readers from a variety of metropolitan areas around the United States and beyond.

Unfortunately, they don’t currently serve Detroit, but we’re hoping to change that with this story.

Check out the full article here (it’s pretty cool):

We also made EDGE’s photo spread on cool sunglasses, sending them a pair of the same Ray-Ban 3025 aviators that Megan Fox has popularized.

Special thanks to David Andrusia, the author of the article,  and the entire EDGE staff for being so great to work with.

Just Say No To Ugly Children’s Glasses with the Ray-Ban Junior Children’s Eyewear Line

Raise your hand if you were ever traumatized by a really bad looking pair of eyeglasses at nine years old?

It’s okay, most of us were.Ray-Ban Junior Children's Designer Eyeglasses and Sunglasses RB1021T

The good news is that today, children, ‘Tweens and teens have more choices than ever before when it comes to finding cool eyeglasses that they’ll actually want to wear.

Ray-Ban Juniors: Our Latest Kids and ‘Tweens Eyewear Line

Over the past several months, we’ve been expanding our children’s line of eyewear at Urban Optiques.

Included in that expansion is the addition of more Lafont Pour Les Enfants frames to our existing collection, swapping out our older Tiny2 frames for the latest styles (as well as adding some additional inventory) and just recently, adding the Ray-Ban Junior line.

We’re All Lit Up About the New Ray-Ban Wayfarer Sunglasses We’ve Added to the Urban Optiques Collection: Especially the Colors!

Forget about raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, one of our favorite things at Urban Optiques is when the UPS guy brings us a big, brown box filled with new eyewear.Ray-Ban Wayfarer Colors Collection

So when we received the first half of our shipment of new Ray-Ban eyewear and sunglasses, it was nothing short of feeding frenzy around the office.

Frankly, we couldn’t get these new shades in the on the rack and in the window fast enough.

Because we just brought in some of the hottest Ray-Ban models on the planet and set-aside our love for the usual classics  like tortoise and black, this time we opted for some really fun, off-the-wall colors that we are convinced will nearly fly on to people’s faces when they walk in.

But don’t take our word for it. You decide.

Here’s what we just got in:

Ray-Ban Cats

The Ray-Ban “Cats” are the fashionista’s alternative to the Wayfarer. They featureRay Ban Cats RB-5000-4125 Sunglasses Pink Gradient Grey a round plastic frame pink, as well as a shape that look fantastic on narrow or longer faces.

These are the exact pair of pink Ray-Ban “Cats” that have been spotted on Katie Price. They are available in several colors, including white, beige/tan, red and black. We picked the pink Cat, because the color is unique, and frankly, we just haven’t stocked many pink sunglasses recently. Depending on the reception, we may bring in the pink Wayfarer.

These five fashion trends straight off the runway will be shaping eyewear this fall and into 2010

We’re seeing five trends in fashion this fall that we think are going to be shaping choices in both eyewear and clothing and accessories through fall and winter.

From big shoulders, to animal prints and Twenties- inspired glamour, the runways this season served up a decidedly eclectic fusion of past, present and future.

Girl Meets Boy

First, men’s-inspired shapes made a return, including built-up shoulders, tuxedo jackets and narrow fitting blazers.

While we saw early signs of an ’80s revival as far back as 2008 with the resurgence of Ray-Bans and Wayfarers, the presence of so much ’80s-inspired clothing on runways this fall suggests that the decade that brought us “Wall Street”, Madonna and Tom Cruise singing in his underwear in a pair of Ray-Bans has clearly weaved its way into this season’s styles.

For those of you who have been waiting two decades for the return of the 80’s “power suit”,  2009/2010 might finally be the year.

Big, padded shoulders have returned, as well as oversized buttons balanced with long flowing silk scarves.  On eBay we’re seeing vintage ’80s suits from the likes of Dior and YSL get snapped up, so it seems this is one fashion trend that has some legs.

For men, it’s a continuation of some of last year’s ’80s inspired clothing, including the return of solid or striped shirt with white collar, popularized by Michael Douglas’ Gorden Gecko in the 1987 movie Wall Street.  Can suspenders be far behind?

In terms of matching the “Girl Meets Boy” look with eyewear, you’ll do best to choose a frame with strong geometric shapes and a heavier, more robust materials.

Keep the overt bling to a minimum on these frames, and instead opt for something that incorporates more subtle, integrated embellishments like small crystals, polished metals or unusual textures into the temples.

Pulling off the “Girl Meets Boy” look demands bold, power-eyewear that is balanced with softer, feminine touches.  We like Ray-Ban Wayfarers with this look as well, since they are the quintessential ’80s eyewear.

For men, pair that solid or striped shirt with the white collar with a pair of classic round Oliver People’s eyeglass frames in gold or silver metals, or a Prada men’s aviator sunglass like the Prada PR 65HS in silver.

Or, depending on your facial structure, we love the bold sophistication of the Tom Ford men’s frame.
