In celebration of 944 Magazine’s debut of “Detroit Swag” this month, Urban Optiques, 944 Detroit and Loree Rodkin
eyeCouture by Sama are giving away a fab pair of Special Edition Loree Rodkin Hunter Sunglasses featuring 18K gold lenses by Sama.
These aren’t just any sunglasses. Like nearly everything we carry at Urban Optiques, you won’t find Loree Rodkin at Sunglass Hut, Lenscrafters, S.E.E. or even Nordstrom or Saks.
Designed by world-renowned L.A. luxury jeweler Loree Rodkin, these magnificent suns feature a silky platinum finish over pure titanium frames, genuine brown calfskin leather insets in the temples, and Loree Rodkin’s trademark skulls in sterling silver.
To top it all off, Sama has luxed-up these already amazing aviators by adding Special Edition 18K white gold lenses.
The Special Edition Loree Rodkin Hunter retails for over $1,200 dollars, but we’re going to put one lucky person in this fantastic, rock-star sunglass for free. All you have to do is visit the 944 Detroit Swag site and register to win.
The winner will be announced in the August Edition of 944 Detroit Magazine.
A few weeks ago, Brian Glascow at Sama Eyewear swore us to secrecy when he shared a new Heart of Gold
sunglass variation that Sheila Vance and the Sama Team had been hard at work on for months.
This was going to be a very special sunglass, Brian explained, with an extremely limited run: Sama was producing only 35 of these sunglasses, and just 10 of them were going to be available to the public through Sama’s small, exclusive network of independent optical boutiques. The remainder would be available for purchase only at the Destination: Sama Beverly Hills, Rome, St. Louis and West Hollywood Boutiques and to a small, inner circle of Sama loyalists.
That’s right: There are only 35 of these sunglasses in the world.
The final look in our “Sama Heart of Gold Sunglasses: Five Ways Over Five Days“ Style Series is all about nature.
We centered the entire look around the beautifully light and airy purple and orange Diane Von Furstenburg “Layly” Tiger dress, which puts a new, colorful twist on this season’s continued obsession with animal prints.
We tried to carry the “Au Naturale” theme through the entire look, choosing accessories that utilized natural materials like wood and cork: Purple D Squared wood platform heels, a Tahari cork clutch and a wood and gold bangle bracelet to finish it off.
Of course, there are also the Sama Heart of Gold sunglasses, which complement the rich, royal oranges and purples that dominate the ensemble.
Enjoy!
Don’t forget to check out the other four looks we put together with the Sama Heart of Gold sunglasses:
One of the things we wanted to accomplish with our “Sama Heart of Gold Five Ways Over Five Days” was to
demonstrate how exceptionally versatile these handmade sunglasses by Sama are as an accessory.
The Heart of Gold is really jewelry for your face; so like a ring, necklace or pair of earrings, you want to know that your investment has legs in terms of how many different ways you can pair it.
The first two looks we put together were a little more opulent — perfect for a summer wedding or formal event when the days are still long and you can wear your sunglasses into the evening hours.
Today’s look is a bit more understated.
We wanted to show how you take the Heart of Gold and accessorize them with day wear — letting you transition flawlessly from the office, to lunch, to dinner without doing much more than perhaps swapping out your shoes.
The look below combines the cool whites and neutral grays of an sophisticated shirt dress from Alice + Olivia with jewelry in yellow gold, diamonds and precious stones that once again play off from the Swarovski crystals in the Heart of Gold’s temples.
It’s Day Two of our “Sama Heart of Gold Five Ways Over Five Days“ and we’re changing things
up with a platinum and white gold look.
Yesterday it was all about the warm, golden hues of the Sama Heart of Gold sunglass in yellow gold, but today we’re creating an entirely new look around the cool, sleek Heart of Gold in Platinum with 18K white gold lenses.
In the look below, we’ve paired Sama’s platinum Heart of Gold sunglass – featuring 18K white gold couture lenses — with an amazing black Jersey dress and pair of silver python sandals from Micheal Kors.
To top it off, we added a fabulous multi-chain bracelet courtesy of Versace.
Today’s look is all about contrasting the luster of platinum and 18K white gold off against the classic little black dress.
Check out the look below!
In celebration of both the arrival of summer and the debut of Sama Couture Eyewear at Urban
Optiques, we decided to take one of Sama’s most beautiful, unique eyewear pieces — the Sama Heart of Gold sunglass — and create five different looks over the next five days.
The Heart of Gold combines colored Swarovski crystals set in 24K gold over titanium frames with Sama’s signature 24K gold flash coated mirrored lenses to create a luxed-up, decadent alternative to the typical aviator sunglass.
The Heart of Gold comes in both yellow gold and platinum frames. Lens tints and coatings are customized for you, including 24K yellow gold or 18K white gold lenses.
Heart of Gold was a true labor of love for Sama Eyewear founder and lead designer Sheila Vance, who literally created the sunglasses in memory of her late son Sam Vance, who lost his life at 19 years old to heroine experimentation. One hundred percent of the net profits of Heart of Gold sales are donated by Sama to the Betty Ford Clinic.
This look is all about rich, warm hues, metallics and crystals.
We ran recently ran across this nice little video from Eyewearfanatic.com. Olivia Keeling interviews Sama Eyewear co-founder Ross Vance and the video has some nice close-ups of the newest Sama sunglass models, including the simply gorgeous Heart of Gold sunglasses.
It’s also cool to hear Ross Vance talk about what makes each of the pieces unique, as well as discuss some of the design and material elements that go into Sama couture eyewear.
Check it out:
Many thanks to Olivia Keeling of Eyewear Fanatic for providing the footage.
