NBA Basketball Star Danny Granger Seen in Badgley Mischka “Steve” Sunglasses

Our friends over at the Destination: Sama boutique in West Beverly Hills just sent us a picture they snapped of NBA basketball star Danny Granger in his new Badgley Mischka “Steve” aviator sunglasses.

The “Steve” sunglass that Danny Granger is sporting is actually a new model from Badgley Mischka Eyewear and Sama and will be released later this month.

Granger is pictured below wearing the “Steve” in gold with 24K gold lenses. We’re still waiting for confirmation from Sama on other color variations, but we do know it will also be available in Clove with special triple gradient-lenses.

Nothing Whispers Long Days at the Beach like the Chloé Tilia Sunglass. Today’s Look Shows You How to Rock These Born-for-the-Beach Sunglasses All Summer Long.

Sometimes you run across a pair of sunglasses with such a distinct personality that everyone who sees them uses the same adjective to describe them.

That’s exactly what happened when we first set our eyes on the Chloé “Tilia” sunglasses.

When our Chloé rep pulled out the Tilias, the first word out of all our mouths was: “Beach!”

From the oversized, 50s-inspired cat-eye shape to the muted, earth-tone pastels and adorable little metallic star in the corner of the lens, the Tilia just seemed to evoke images of toes-in-the-sand or lounging poolside with a mojito in your hand.

A Little Known Perk from VSP Lets Lasik Patients Use Their Eyeglass Benefit for Non-Prescription Sunglasses

If you’ve had Lasik surgery and want to upgrade to a new pair of sunglasses this summer, we’ve got a great tip that could save you over $100 on your new shades.

Thanks to a little known benefit from VSP, VSP vision insurance members who have undergone Lasik vision correction surgery can use their bi-yearly eyeglass benefit toward a pair of non-prescription sunglasses.

Yes, we said that right: If you’ve had Lasik and you have VSP, you can get your non-prescription sunglasses completely or partially paid for.

Normally, the frame benefit can only be applied to prescription sunglasses (for non-Lasik patients.) But if you’ve had Lasik surgery, VSP wants you to still protect your eyes from damaging UV rays and is willing to let you apply your usual frame benefit toward a pair of fantastic suns.

Depending on your particular VSP plan, this benefit can save you up to $150 dollars on non-prescription sunglasses.  That will pretty much cover a brand new pair of Ray Bans or get you into a pair of fab Badgley Mischka, Prada,  Sama, Tag Heuer, or Chloe suns at a savings of up to 50% off the retail price (or better, depending on brand and model.)

Meet Our Newest Pre-Optometry Intern at Urban Optiques: Ellie Rose

One of the things that excites me the most about owning Urban Optiques is our Pre-Optometry Internship Program.

At any given time, you’ll typically find 1-3 smart, highly-talented (and always energetic) pre-optometry students interning at Urban Optiques.  As someone who was able to experience an internship myself earlier in my career, I know how invaluable it can be to get some real-world, hands-on experience working within a bustling practice BEFORE you enter the optometry doctoral program.

So I’m thrilled to introduce and welcome our latest Pre-Optometry Intern at Urban Optiques, Ellie Rose.

Ellie joins our existing rockstar Intern Claire Steensma who has been with us since January. Claire will be doing some traveling this summer as well as switching around some of her hours, so we’re thrilled to have Ellie jump in and help cover, as well as bring her own delightful personality, energy and intelligence to the practice.

So a little bit more about Ellie:

Ellie is currently a Junior at the University of Michigan (which as a Spartan, I will not hold against her) and is doing her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience.  She’s extremely active in the Alpha Phi Omega (Gamm Pi Chapter) service fraternity at U of M (so you know she has a heart);  loves photography and art; music and planning parties and events (good skills to have around Urban Optiques!)

VSP Vision Care Expands Coverage for Diabetes with Launch of Diabetic Eyecare Plus Program(SM); Urban Optiques Participating

Earlier this week, VSP® Vision Care announced new, expanded coverage for members who have diabetes.

The Diabetic Eyecare Plus Program is an extension of VSP’s current coverage for members with diabetes, and the  program offers specialized services for members with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, including diabetic eye exams, diagnostic tests, and digital retinal imaging.

Services included in the Diabetic Eyecare Plus Program play an important role in the prevention, early detection, and management of diabetic eye disease. Through comprehensive eye exams, eye doctors can detect signs of chronic conditions including diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension.
