ProDesign | Denmark “Tints” Eyewear & Sunglasses

Introducing Our ProDesign | Denmark Tints Collection Only Available at Urban Optiques

At Urban Optiques, we like to get creative with our eyewear.

It’s easy just to stock the same run-of-the-mill frames and brands that the chains carry, in the same predictable shapes, colors, materials and lenses.

If that’s what you truly want, you can always visit www.costco.com or www.pearlevision.com (yes, believe it or not, we’re comfortable enough that you’ll eventually choose us that we’ll actually send you to our competitors’ websites to compare.)

But we’ve quickly realized that our clients and patients expect something different.

They want the new, the stylish, the fashionable, the unusual – and sometimes — the cutting edge.

That’s why they’ll drive from as far away as Ohio (yes, they really do) or Grosse Pointe to find their perfect eyewear in downtown Northville.

Which brings me to our new ProDesign | Denmark Tints Collection.

Introducing the Joy of Tinted Lenses

Earlier this month, we sat around the shop and asked ourselves: “How can we offer something completely different and unique to our clients? Something that can’t get anywhere else?”

Cathy, one of our longtime opticians, suggested putting tinted lenses into some of our Prodesign | Denmark frames.

The idea sprang from a recent client (a Barista at the Northville Starbucks and a longtime client) who bought a pair of gorgeous Badgley Mischka frames and had a beautiful coordinating tinted lens dropped into her couture frames.

The effect was nothing short of stunning.

Ever since then, we’ve become unabashed fans of the careful and deliberate application of tint to eyeglass frames.

It’s All In The Tint

So in early January, we grabbed a handful of ProDesign frames and started selecting tinted lenses that complemented or contrasted with ProDesign’s already sleek, modern frames and eclectic color combinations.

The ProDesigns were a natural choice because their frame styles are modern and hip and take a colored lens well.

In addition, ProDesign doesn’t offer a sunglass collection, even though we think their frames are just begging for one. So, in essence, we created a ProDesign sunglass line for them.

Becky, Cathy, Matt and myself went to work matching up different lens tints and gradients with each of the ProDesign frame colors.

In some cases, we matched the lens tint to the frame color (for example, placing brown and copperish tints in copper metal frames) and in others, we placed contrasting colors on the lenses (like a yellow lens tint with a green Titanium frame, which is really edgy and hip.)

We thought these would look cool, but we had no idea how cool they actually were until we got the frames back from the lab.

In some cases, we did double-tint/gradients, that mixed colors like violets and rose in a single lens.

The effect floored us.

Exclusive Tinted ProDesigns Only from Urban Optiques

As far as we know, there is no optical shop in the country offering these hand-selected, custom tints on their eyeglasses.

Not only do they make a cool pair of sunglasses, but they also help clients and patients see first-hand how the use of colored and tinted lenses can create a one-of-a-kind, customized pair of eyewear that lets people see … and be seen.

So far, reaction from our clients with the new ProDesign Tint Collection has been overwhelmingly positive, and we’ve already moved several of them as sunglasses.

We’ve also successfully used the ProDesign Tint Collection to demonstrate how subtle lens tints can transform a pair of glasses into something truly unique and extraordinary.
