If you’ve stopped into Urban Optiques lately, you’ll notice a new piece of equipment in the front optical studio: The Carl Zeiss i-Terminal.
Many of you will recognize the name “Carl Zeiss.”
Zeiss is considered the leader in precision optics and their lenses are used in everything from microsurgery to scientific research, Hollywood filmmaking, the U.S. space program and yes, eyeglasses.
So when we had a chance to sign-on to a pilot program with a new piece of lens-fitting equipment from Zeiss specifically-designed to work with the Zeiss’ 100% Customized premium lens portfolio, we’re thrilled to be one of only six Michigan optometry practices to offer the Zeiss i-Terminal (and only one of two in Metro-Detroit.)
The Zeiss i-Terminal represents the cutting-edge of lens-fitting technology.
Part computer, part optical scanner, the i-Terminal takes nearly all of the guesswork out of fitting both progressive and single vision lenses and provides you with 100% personalized lenses, customized to your prescription, frame, face and personal preferences.
In the past, fitting lenses depended largely on the skills of the optician.
We’d take a series of manual measurements, “dot” your glasses with a magic marker and send your order off to the lab. While an experienced and skilled optician can get fairly accurate results with the traditional, manual-measurement method, fitting lenses and eyeglasses is all about precision. The more precise the measurements, the clearer your vision. This is especially true with progressive lenses.
The Zeiss i-Terminal utilizes an optical scanner coupled with a computer to take extremely precise measurements that simply can’t be achieved with the manual measurement method. In fact, it’s accurate within 1/10 of a millimeter, which is actually 1/4 of the size of the “magic dot” most opticians put on your lenses. So much for the precision of magic markers.
The Zeiss i-Terminal takes into account things like the size, shape and tilt of the frame, where you prefer to wear your glasses (up high on your bridge or down lower), the distance of the actual lens from your eye, as well as the height of the lenses themselves and your specific prescription.
This allows us to incorporate how your glasses/lenses are actually worn into the design of the lens — whether that is single vision or a progressive. Personalized measurements include monocular PD (pupil distance), pantoscopic tilt, vertex distance and frame wrap angle.
When combined with patented Carl Zeiss Individual(TM) lenses, the i-Terminal allows an truly unprecedented level of lens personalization. The benefit for you is improved vision, plus fields of view that are 50% wider than
with other lenses. This reduces the truncated reading areas and restricted viewing zones that can sometimes frustrate progressive lens wearers.
By using the i-Terminal in conjunction with Zeiss Individual lenses, we’re also able to provide a much wider range of frame choices that will work with your prescription — even if you are in a progressive. This offers you more variety when it comes to choosing frames. Some frame shapes and heights that you were prohibited from wearing with previous progressive lenses may now work for you.
The proof of personalization can be seen not only in the performance and accuracy of the Zeiss i-Terminal and Zeiss
Individual lens technology, but in the actual lens itself. Each Zeiss Individual lens bears a small, yet unmistakable laser micro-etching that can be customized with your initials.
The added accuracy of the Zeiss i-Terminal can help improve visual clarity and field of vision for single vision lens wearers as well, especially when paired with a Zeiss Individual(TM) single vision lens. The i-Terminal is also ideal for taking measurements in hard-to-fit patients, especially children and infants.
Another cool feature of the i-Terminal is that it allows us to take pictures of you wearing different frames, which solves a major issue for patients who can’t see the frames they are trying on without their glasses.
If you’ve experienced problems with progressives in the past, you’ll want to stop in and experience the Carl Zeiss Individual lenses and i-Terminal for yourself.
For a limited time we are offering $50 off all Zeiss Individual Progressive and Single Vision Lenses. Just ask about the Zeiss Premium Lenses when you schedule your appointment or stop in.
